What Duong Dong is
Duong Dong is where the island's government, markets and older streets are. It sits on the west coast at the mouth of the Duong Dong river, and it was a ward of Phu Quoc city until 1 July 2025, when the city became a special zone and its wards and communes were folded into it. The town is the island's largest and is described as its administrative centre.
For a visitor, Duong Dong is the part of Phu Quoc that works as a town rather than a resort: offices, a river harbour of fishing boats, a market, and the rock shrine at Dinh Cau at the river mouth. It is also where the island's well-known night market traded on Bach Dang street for a decade, until the lease ended.
Because most of the island's administration sits here, many of the notices reported on this site, from the night market decision to the launch of the response team for tourists, come from offices in Duong Dong even when they concern other parts of the island.
