Advertise: positions, sizes and the rules

Phu Quoc Media carries display advertising in fixed, labelled positions. This page lists the positions and sizes, the pages that never carry advertising, and the rules that keep advertising separate from reporting. Prices are not published; enquiries go to the editors by email.

Positions and sizes

PositionWhere it appearsDesktop sizePhone size
UpperBelow the headline and lead, above the first section728 × 90 leaderboard320 × 100
MiddleAfter the second section of an article300 × 250 rectangle300 × 250
LowerAfter the last section, before the reading list728 × 90 leaderboard320 × 100

Every position carries the word Advertisement above the banner. When no campaign is booked, the space shows a neutral placeholder with the same label, as you can see on this page. Banners link out with a sponsored link attribute and open in a new tab, so that search engines and readers can tell them apart from editorial links.

A campaign can run on all pages that carry advertising or on chosen pages, for example only the flights brief or only the what's on calendar. Campaigns have start and end dates; when a campaign ends, its banner is removed and the placeholder returns.

Files

  • Static images in WebP, PNG or JPG, one file per size. A separate 320 × 100 file for phones is recommended for the upper and lower positions.
  • The destination address you want the banner to open, which we tag for campaign measurement.
  • Alternative text describing the banner for screen readers.
  • No animation that flashes, no sound, no pop-ups, no auto-playing video.

Pages that never carry advertising

  • The contact page.
  • Legal pages, including the privacy policy, and the thank-you page after a message is sent.
  • Error pages and the photo credits page.
  • Any page an editor marks as not suitable, for example a report on an accident.

The rules that separate advertising from news

  1. Advertisers do not see articles before publication and cannot ask for changes to them.
  2. Advertising cannot buy a mention, a link or a position in the news text, the calendar or the area pages.
  3. Editors decide what to cover without regard to who advertises. A story about an advertiser is reported the same way as any other.
  4. Advertising is placed only in the labelled positions listed above. We do not publish sponsored articles, advertorials or paid listings.
  5. The editors who write the news do not handle advertising enquiries.

What we decline

  • Banners designed to look like news headlines or official notices.
  • Transport services that cannot show a registration, such as unlicensed boat trips.
  • Visa or immigration services that imply official status.
  • Gambling, tobacco and products whose advertising is restricted in Viet Nam.
  • Political advertising.

Why the site carries advertising

Phu Quoc Media does not sell travel and takes no commission on bookings. Advertising in fixed positions pays for the time spent reading notices, checking sources and keeping dates current. Keeping advertising in labelled boxes, and out of the text, is how we make sure that a reader can always tell which is which.

If you see a banner that breaks these rules, or an advertisement that looks like news, tell us through the contact page. We treat that as a correction.
